How to make a non-toxic smoke or fog

This is a great science project for Halloween. You can create smoke or fog effects just like your local haunted house.

  • All you need is:
  • Dry Ice (Carbon Dioxide)
  • Hot Water
  • Insulated Container

Caution! Dry ice is cold enough to cause frost bite, and asphyxiation caused by an excess of carbon dioxide. Keep away from children, and pets. Adult supervision is required for this experiment.

  1. Add chunks of dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) to hot water in a styrofoam or equivalent foam insulated container.
  2. The fog will sink to the ground . Use a fan to move your fog across the ground.
  3. Refresh the hot water as it cools. This will maintain the effect.
  4. Have fun!
