Flame Salts
![]()
This experiment demonstrates how salts burn. It is also a fun campfire activity. Caution! this experiment requires adult supervision.
Fill a bucket with warm water. Stir in a half pound of powdered salt to one gallon of water. Soak the pine cones in the water mixture for at least 24 hours. Spread the pine cones out to dry or place them into a paper bag. This also can be done by melting paraffin wax, adding the powdered salts, dipping the pines cones, and setting them out to dry. After the pinecones are completely dry you can put them into the fire and watch the amazing colors.
