Acid and Base Foaming Reaction:
The two liquids compared to each other may look like plain water. But you will know what they really are. You're really mixing a base to an acid causing it to be neutralized. This trick can easily spill over, so do the trick on a stain-resistant table, on layer of newspaper, or near a sink.
Whats needed?
- Two glasses
- Water
- Baking Soda
- White Vinegar
Here's what to do:
- Fill one of the glasses about halfway with water, and then mix in 2 teaspoons or so of baking soda. Stir well so that the baking soda dissolves, and the liquid looks clear water.
- Fill the other glass halfway with white vinegar.
- Now pour the vinegar into the glass of baking soda and water. You'll get quite a reaction. If you're not careful, your experimental solution will foam over the kitchen counter. That's because the base (baking soda) reacted with the acid (vinegar). The result was a salt plus enough carbon dioxide bubbles to foam up and spill.
